Preserving the history of gliding in Great Britain.
Despite the fact that Great Britain is one of the most successful gliding nations with a large number of very active clubs and considerable success in competitions world-wide, unlike other great gliding nations including Australia, Germany, France, Sweden and the USA, Britain does not have a dedicated museum to preserve our gliding heritage. This situation is about to change!
The Gliding Heritage Centre is a Registered Charity (No.1148972). It was established to fulfil the wishes of the late Chris Wills, founder and first president of the International Vintage Glider Club. Chris' life-long ambition was to preserve the history of gliding through the restoration of vintage gliders and to enable these to be both more accessible and widely flown. Chris Wills passed away on 4th May 2011 and in his will he left a sum of money for a hangar to be built at Lasham Airfield specifically for vintage gliders.
